Prof. Nira Mashal
Prof. Nira Mashal, full Prof., PhD in Brain Research from BIU, Dean of students (2020-23), former vice head of the Faculty of Education at BIU and current head of the graduate studies for Neuroeducation (to be opened on Oct 2021) and member of the Gonda Brain Research Center. Prof. Mashal obtained her PhD at the Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan and her MSc at the Technion, Haifa.
Over the last decade Prof. Mashal developed evidenced-based cognitive intervention to enhance pragmatics, language and cognitive abilities in neurotypicals as well as clinical populations such as ASD, Dyslexia and Schizophrenia. Prof. Mashal published 70 journal articles as well as national and international presentations on the field of brain and language, brain stimulation, brain lateralization, creativity, and cognitive interventions. Her methods include psycholinguistics experiments, brain stimulation techniques (tDCS), fMRI, QEEGand ERP.
Prof. Mashal established the first Neuroeducation progrmam in Israel that qualify students to apply brain research techniques in typical and atypical populations to increase cognitive and language functioning.

אוכלוסיות קליניות שונות סובלות מקשיים שונים בהתפתחות היכולת השפתית, התפקודים הניהוליים והבנת הפרגמטיקה הדרושה לתפקוד חברתי תקין בחיי היום-יום. המעבדה לשפה ומוח עוסקת במגוון נושאים המרוכזים סביב השאלה מהן הדרכים לשיפור יכולות קוגניטיביות, שפתיות ופרגמטיות באוכלוסייה עם התפתחות תקינה ואוכלוסייה עם הפרעות התפתחותיות שונות כגון אוטיזם (ASD), לקויות למידה, הפרעות קשב (ADHD) וסכיזופרניה. הבנה מעמיקה של הקשיים ופיתוח תוכניות לשיפור אותם קשיים דורשים שילוב של אבחון מוקפד עם ידע תיאורטי רלוונטי. מאידך, שמה לה המעבדה כמטרה לחקור, לשפר ולחזק את יכולת החשיבה הייחודית והיצירתית של היחיד. השיטות למחקר שנמצאות בשימוש במעבדה הן גרייה מוחית חשמלית (tDCS) ,tVNS , ניסויים נוירופסיכולוגיים, אלקטרופיזיולוגיה (ERP) ובחינת הבדלים המיספריים (DVF).
The Brain & Language Lab
Different clinical populations suffer from difficulties in language, executive functioning and pragmatics understanding necessary for proper functioning in daily life. The Brain & Language Lab studies the ways to improve cognitive, verbal and pragmatic abilities in clinical populations including people with ASD, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), intellectual disabilities and schizophrenia. A thorough understanding of these difficulties and the development of training programs to improve those difficulties requires a combination of careful diagnosis with relevant theoretical knowledge. On the other hand, Mashal’s lab has set itself the goal of improving individual's unique and creative thinking ability. The research methods used in the lab are electrical brain stimulation (tDCS), tVNS, neuropsychological experiments, electrophysiology (ERP) and examination of hemispheric differences (DVF).
